Pressure cook the dal

1/2 cup Toor dal

1/3 cup Chopped tomatoes

1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

1/2 tsp Cummin seeds

3 cups Water

1 tsp Salt

1/2 cup Chopped drumstick

1 tbsp Oil

1 tsp Mustard seeds

1 tsp Urad dal

1/2 tsp Cummin seeds

1 pinch Asafoetida/hing powder

2 counts Green chilies

2 strands Curry leaves

10 counts Shallots
-
1/2 tbsp Homemade/Store sambar powder

1/2 lemon size squeezed Tamarind extract

Done

Rinse well and soak toor dal for upto 30 minutes. Then pressure cook the table - 1 ingredients with 3 cups of water for 15 minutes (5 whistles) |

Once after 5 whistles, switch off the flame and set aside. |

Soak the tamarind for at least 20 minutes to get the extract. After 20 minutes, strain the juice and set aside/ |

Clean the drumsticks, peel the outer layer of the skin lightly if it’s very hard and cut them into 3 inch pieces and boil for 10 minutes with a pinch of salt and water added in it and kept aside. |

Heat oil in a pan. Add in the mustard seeds,urad dal,cumin seeds,green chilies,curry leaves and asafoetida. let it splutter. Now add shallots until it turns light brown. Include the chopped tomatoes in it and cook until it becomes soft and mushy. |

Add in the tamarind extract mixed with the sambar powder and boiled drumsticks to it. Let it cook for 5 minutes on medium heat. |

Now open the pressure cook lid and mash the cooked dal with tomatoes with the help of laddle to blend it well and pour the mixture to the pan. |

Let it simmer for 15 minutes. Once we get the nice aroma of sambar, switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves. |
